- Increase the minimum length or entry requirements for the journals, or ask students to keep writing over an extended period of time (for example, 2 entries per week for 6 weeks).
- Assign a short reflection paper (1-2 pages) in response to the journals, asking students to respond more formally to the intersection of relationships and identity, using examples from their own life.
- Ask students to adapt the content of their journal into a finished creative work (short story, poem, graphic novel, letter, essay, etc.), incorporating additional time for editing and revision of work, or for students to evaluate the use of perspective, structure, style and tone in their final pieces.
